"Recording Time (with Scraps and Words)" by Courtney Kenny

“Amsterdam” by Courtney Kenny (detail, mixed media)

Life is richer because of its transience and fragility. I find a sense of empowerment and renewal knowing that I can record these moments that would otherwise slip away from memory.

Carbondale Arts presents “Recording Time (with Scraps and Words)” a solo exhibition by Courtney Kenny at the Carbondale Arts Gallery, on display October 3 - 30, 2025. The opening reception will take place First Friday, October 3, from 5-7pm at The Launchpad, with an artist talk at 5:30pm.

Note that there are 2 other exhibitions that will run concurrently (October 3 - 30) in the gallery space:
”Intimate. Immensity” by Laura Dortmans and “Fluid Landscapes” by Michael Kinsley

Mixed media artist Courtney Kenny uses poetry as a form of sketching to record observations, emotions, frustrations, and revelations. Life is so finite and yet so mysterious; through Courtney’s art and poetry she attempts to document these visceral moments of awe, inviting viewers to explore the depths of the human psyche through the interplay of observation, metaphor, and artistic expression.

Courtney Kenny, mixed media artist
Stockton, New Jersey

Courtney Kenny, born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, creates work that weaves together sketches, collage and found objects with poetry and calligraphy. After graduating from Loyola University, Maryland, she headed west to Carbondale, Colorado, where the landscape and community shaped her practice. Recently, she returned to the East Coast to work as a Museum Preparator at the Princeton University Art Museum.

Kenny approaches collage as a space of chance and discovery, using fragments of image, text, and material to unlock narrative possibilities. She is interested in using art and poetry as a mechanism to record a personal history and develop one’s sense of identity. By layering and recontextualizing what is discarded or overlooked, her work invites metaphor and storytelling to emerge from the everyday.

I am honored to be back at The Launchpad in beautiful Carbondale and so excited to reconnect with friends and this wonderful community of people.
