Creative Apprentice Program
The Carbondale Arts Creative Apprentice Program employs teens to work with local creative professionals to develop works of community value while gaining exposure to and experience in contemporary creative professions.
Carbondale Arts is looking for teaching artists for an upcoming project:
This Creative Apprentice project will pay teens to create alebrijes for the local Día de los Muertos celebration in November. The selected teaching artists will work with a group of teens after school from late September to early November for a total of up to 80hrs. Compensation will be $40 per hour.
The ideal teaching artist will have experience working with youth 12-18, collaborating on creative projects and creating 3D works, ideally with paper mache or a similar medium. The teaching artist will be responsible for leading the group, helping to design and source materials to create the alebrijes. Additional responsibilities may include coordination of community workshops leading up to Día de los Muertos and participation in the procession on First Friday, November 6th. Field\Work
The Field/Work project will consider and create public art and design that is rooted in place, specifically the rural west, and how art and design can promote and catalyze a deeper connection to the land, more sustainable practices and ecological and cultural stewardship.
Community Fashion Project
WINTER 2024 Creative Apprentice Program.
This project is a collaboration between the Carbondale Art's Creative Apprentice Program and The Project Shop's ReWear Initiative. The Creative Apprentice Program pays teens (14-20) to work with creative professionals to create works of community value through collaboration and learning.
Field Guide to the Roaring Fork Valley
Over the course of 14 weeks, seven local students have the opportunity to work with local visual artist, Lindsay Jones to shape a guidebook to their community. The guide will be both practical and poetic and will feature physical sites, cultural resources and displays of social realities. Field guide coming soon.
Coal Basin: Landscape Interventions
As part of the 2022 Summer apprentice project, three teens worked with local landscape designer Hallie Miller to study the landscape at Coal Basin Ranch and investigate ways we understand and shape place. Through the project the apprentices developed designs and prototypes for custom entry signage at Coal Basin Ranch.
Zine Project: Door to the Abditorium
During the initial Creative Apprentice project in 2021 and 2022, 4 students used the opportunity to share stories, collaborate and create. The resulting poetry, drawings, and long-form writing expressed their personal and observed experiences with and around mental health issues.
