Design Reveal for the 55th Mountain Fair
This contest is almost as old as the Fair itself. Each year, Carbondale Arts receives thoughtfully crafted concepts and designs from artists across the state (with general preference given to RFV artists). It’s unbelievably difficult to choose. Carbondale Arts expands the jury to include dedicated Fair supervisors and veterans to vote on the final design. Former Carbondale Arts staff member, Laura Stover continues creative direction with the artist to finalize the design to best suit T-shirts of different colors and styles, making it a highlight of the Fair each year.
Volunteers are essential to the Fair. Anyone contributing more than 4 hours of their time receives a complimentary (and highly coveted) commemorative “Friend of Fair” shirt. Learn more about volunteering here.
This year’s design was created by Colorado visual artist and tattooer Rowan Brown. Formally trained in traditional tattooing, she developed a strong foundation in design and composition. While her artistic education has been largely self-directed outside of tattooing, Rowan credits her apprenticeship with providing an unexpected depth of creative and technical knowledge.
Raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Rowan draws inspiration from the landscapes and culture of the Four Corners region. Her love of art began early, encouraged by her mother and shaped through a passion for drawing and painting. Alongside her tattoo work, Rowan continues to explore new creative avenues.
