My work is about transformation and an interest in how things go together. Meaning comes from the process of painting, color harmony, the emotional integrity and alchemy of the process.

Carbondale Arts presented “Transformation”, a solo exhibition by Hunter Hogan, at the Carbondale Arts R2 Gallery. “Transformation” was on exhibition May 7 - 28, 2021. The public was invited to an outdoor artist talk on Friday evening, May 7, at 5:15pm at The Launchpad to hear Hunter speak, along with Jenn Weede and Shelly Safir Marolt, whose 2 person show “HELD: What is the Value of the Vulnerable?” began the same day.

Using printed material from design magazines, Carbondale-based artist Hunter Hogan cuts up pieces and arranges them to make studies for her paintings; her process involves interpreting them. Hunter’s work is about transformation and how things go together. Meaning comes from the energy, color harmony, emotional integrity, and the alchemy of painting. Hunter prefers her work not to be too polished and believes in seeing the hand of the painter to achieve a scruffy romantic elegance.

“Transformation” was generously sponsored by Land+Shelter. Land+Shelter is a local architecture and planning company that seeks to harmonize the built environment with the natural environment and, in so doing, practice sustainable design. We partner with clients to create sustainable, modern architecture that respects the land and enhances community. Land+Shelter provides an integration of architecture, sustainable design, owner’s representation, planning services, and community outreach – since 2005. Find out more at www.landandshelter.com

This exhibition opened the same dates (May 7 - 28, 2021) as “HELD: What is the Value of the Vulnerable?” by Jenn Weede and Shelly Safir Marolt.

Enjoy a virtual tour of "HELD" & "Transformation", on exhibition at the R2 Gallery from May 7 through 27, 2021.

Using printed material from design magazines, I cut shapes and rearrange the pieces to make studies for paintings. This method is a way to experiment with color, structure, and line.
