Carbondale Arts presented “Linear // Planar”, a 2-person ceramics exhibition by Savanna LaBauve and Stephanie Seguin with an opening reception on First Friday, May 3, from 6-8pm at the R2 Gallery inside The Launchpad. This exhibition opened the same evening as “Yellow For Frances“, a solo painting show with Eden Keil. R2 Gallery patrons and Carbondale Arts members were invited to a special preview and artist talk at 5:30pm before the shows opened to the public at 6pm.
Both Savanna and Stephanie were in their second and final year of Artist in Residency at Carbondale Clay Center. Having used the prompt Paper Clay: Two artists. Two materials. Two perspectives, each artist responded to their materials, investigative processes, and the search for the point at which forms would melt into the page and where patterns became physical form. The resulting works highlighted the space between the two and three dimensional, and scrutinize where they meet, overlap, and diverge. Through vessels paired with drawings, neighbored by sculptural components layered with pattern, the show presented the viewers with a compelling look at a breadth of material possibilities. Savanna and Stephanie aspired to spark a new plane of thought by engaging their audience through a collation of research-based results.
“Linear // Planar” was on exhibit at the R2 Gallery through May 31, 2019.
