Carbondale Arts presents two-person exhibition “Line of Totality” with Chris Hassig and Elliot Norquist, opening Thursday, October 12, from 6-8pm. Hassig’s detailed, richly complex drawings have recently moved into a more abstract, evocative realm, using diverse media whose marks simultaneously suggest strata, landscape, and atmosphere. Norquist, a metal sculptor, has been exploring “usual shapes” and their relationships for years. His minimalist-inspired work in this exhibition employs a newly-found sense of depth, pattern, and a continued appreciation for the clarity that arises from simple forms and colors. With these two artists’ complex and bold works on display together in the R2 Gallery, there is plenty of space for new meanings and explorations along the Line of Totality.
The artists will give a talk in the gallery at 5:15pm before the opening reception on October 12 for Patrons and Carbondale Arts Members only. Line of Totality runs through November 8, 2017.
