Art Talk & Opening Reception for Line of Totality

Thursday, October 12, 2017

Carbondale Arts presents two-person exhibition “Line of Totality” with Chris Hassig and Elliot Norquist, opening Thursday, October 12, from 6-8pm. Hassig’s detailed, richly complex drawings have recently moved into a more abstract, evocative realm, using diverse media whose marks simultaneously suggest strata, landscape, and atmosphere. Norquist, a metal sculptor, has been exploring “usual shapes” and their relationships for years. His minimalist-inspired work in this exhibition employs a newly-found sense of depth, pattern, and a continued appreciation for the clarity that arises from simple forms and colors. With these two artists’ complex and bold works on display together in the R2 Gallery, there is plenty of space for new meanings and explorations along the Line of Totality.

The artists will give a talk in the gallery at 5:15pm on Thursday, October 12 for Gallery Patrons and Carbondale Arts Members only. The reception, open to the public, follows from 6-8pm with the artists in attendance.

Line of Totality runs through November 8, 2017.
