Creative Apprentice Program APPLICATIONS CLOSED

The Creative Apprentice Program offers teens (14-19) an opportunity to work with local creative professionals to create works of community value. Up to 6 teens will be paid to work on a mini magazine.

Over the course of the project apprentices will work under the guidance of lead artist Lindsay Jones to develop a guide to their community. The guide will be both practical and poetic and will feature physical sites, cultural resources and displays of social realities. Youth will be invited to bring their individual lived experiences to the process and are encouraged to explore and address topics including LGBTQIA+ support, mental health, equity and inclusion. Participants will be able to pursue their interests to work in a variety of mediums including graphic design, photography, storytelling and visual and literary arts.

Lead artist Lindsay Jones is a Carbondale based artist whose whimsical drawings and paintings move fluidly between artwork you can hold in your hand, to images and animations that only exist in the digital world. Her process of making images is experimental and spontaneous, producing images that are a result of the physical act of creating.

Project schedule:
January 18- April 20 | Wednesdays 2:45-4:45 & Thursdays 3:45-5:15
(no meeting on March 29 or 30)

Location: Carbondale Colorado Mountain College Campus

Eligibility: Students must be 14-19 years old, live in the valley and be able to the majority of all sessions. Students should be interested in the arts, design and creative expression, but do not need previous experience.

Application Deadline: December 2nd
Phone Interviews: December 5-12th
Apprentices notified of acceptance: before December 19th

Pay: Students will earn $13.65/hr
