Natural Wood Assemblage SculptureMarch 3rd & 4th, 10-4

Learn methods to combine natural, found wood into an assemblage sculpture that captures natural life and your own unique artistic expression. Assemblage is a transitional process that may be inspired one beautiful piece of wood or other material which provides both the vision and the starting point that leads to a finished sculpture. This course will take you from designing your concept, establishing the base and balance of your piece through construction, and finally, to the application of a surface treatment or patina. You will get experience using tools, glues, synthetic clays, and acrylic paints that will help you construct wood and other found objects into an extraordinary assemblage.

Sheri Gaynor, author of Creative Awakenings: Envisioning the Life of Your Dreams Through Art, will show you simple tools and techniques to create a beautiful art journal. Visual journaling is an entryway into our heart and mind. You will use creative writing, paint, and collage to move beyond the written word and take the idea of journaling to new places. Take part in a journey of the imagination in a safe, supportive environment where there are no rules and anything goes. A piano class for budding young pianists happens at the CCAH Center for the Arts on Fridays afternoons. This fun class is more than just piano lessons. Taught by Laurel Karlik Sheehan, it will include reading music, hearing music, writing songs as well as playing familiar songs all in a relaxed fun environment. The class is for beginning students only. Laurel is the director and founder of Mountain Laurel Music Prepartory and a graduate of the Peabody Institute of Music and has performed in Europe, Canada and throughout the United. States. Children learn patterns, note reading, OCTAVES, conducting, interval recognition and ear training. We begin to write a song and we play a piece on the piano.
Intermediate students have finished beginner information. They learn the CIRCLE OF FIFTHS and use it in real time to play, compose and generally begin to see the predictable qualities of music.
Laurel Karlik Sheehan, B.M., Johns Hopkins University. The curriculum is based on Peabody Preparatory Curriculum, where she taught from 1990-1995. We utilize Laurel’s new Workbooks (copyright 2010 Library of Congress). MORE THAN JUST PIANO CLASS: Saving the whole language of music one student at a time.
- Drop-In Figure Drawing - Mondays, 7-9 pm
This is an ongoing class for artists of all stages of accomplishment. There is no charge for the class, but there will be a model’s fee (the amount will depend upon the number of attendees). There will be no formal instruction, but artists will help each other (if desired)….critiques are also possible. Bring your own supplies. - Garment Construction - Please call if you are interested
Garment Construction – This class will focus on basic garment construction including shaping the fabric, zippers, sleeves, cuffs and buttonholes. Students need to bring scissors (fabric and small sharp scissors), pins (magnetic pin holder or pin cushion), seam ripper, sewing gauge, tape measure, hand sewing needles and good all purpose thread (any color). Each student needs to have a sewing machine in proper working order and knowledge of how to clean and oil the machine. Also a three ring binder for instruction sheets and samples. A mastery of basic sewing skills is a must.Costs: $125 plus materials Click here to register.
- Ukrainian Egg Decorating Class - March 31st
Ukrainian Egg Class with Jill Scher - March 31st from 9:00 – 2:00 CCAH Classroom
Start your own tradition of making these beautiful eggs each year. This activity has been practiced for thousands of years in Eastern Europe as a way of welcoming spring. Ukrainian eggs are decorated with beautiful colored patterns that use beeswax as a resist. The eggs are easy to make and are beautiful whether the pattern is simple or complex. The process is relaxing and fun and you get to take 2 or 3 lovely eggs away with you at the end of the day. Limit: 12 Click here to register.
